A senior Zimbabwean journalist has launched Media in Zimbabwe, a new Website for journalists covering news about Zimbabwe. The site aims to distribute information that journalists may need for their work, providing communication between newsmakers and journalists. According to its editor, the site also addresses the important role that journalists play in handling problems and preparing for the future of Zimbabwe, according to the site’s editor.

AOL, a unit of Time Warner Brothers, has just launched two new specialty websites in a bid to increase its advertising revenue. Though AOL’s portals (www.aol.com in the US and for India, www.aol.in) are more of a one website for all, the company is clearly targeting niche Internet audiences with the launch of Pixcetera (www.pixcetera.com), a website for professional level photography; and Wallet Pop (www.walletpop.com), a site for personal finance.

Student journalists are being offered the chance to see their work and byline published on a new website. clocking-off.com, to be launched next month by Bristol-based web designer Robert Ede, will feature stories about activities and free-time pursuits both in the UK and abroad. It will also serve as directory with contact details and information about a wide range of organisations.

The site is designed to be accessible and useful to club members and potential club members. The club believe the site will be a very valuable tool in communicating information on club activities, competition results and records to club members. Non-club members are also welcome to access the new website where they can access information on criteria used to assess young swimmers.

The Grey Highlands Library has launched two new websites. One is dedicated to Agnes MacPhail, who was born in Grey County and was Canada's first female in Parliament. Norma Graham with the Library says there is already a lot of information about Agnes MacPhail, but they wanted to explore MacPhail's life growing up in Grey County. She says they got a lot of information from Grey Roots Museum and Archives as well as the South Grey Museum.

The BBC is planning to launch five new local area websites for regions in the UK. In addition to the corporation today launching its public consultation on proposals for £68m investment in local video online, it also revealed that two new websites covering regions in Northern Ireland were under construction. These sites are being developed under on-going plans to improve BBC Local sites in Scotland and Northern Ireland to bring them into line with current provision in England and Wales.

Word that the Internet search giant has something up its sleeve surfaced when the Advertising Research Foundation, which is holding a media conference focused on audience measurement in New York starting Tuesday, publicized a Google presentation scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
